NEEDED: Participants in the following study

Study: enhancing cognition and improving symptoms of depression

  • Time commitment: 12-week internet-based treatment program, along with questionnaires.

Evidence for efficacy and safety of laser stimulation

Healthy adults

Barrett & Gonzalez-Lima, 2013

  • Improvement of emotional states
  • Increased reaction time and sustained attention
  • Shorter memory retrieval latency and increased task accuracy
  • Increase of oxygenated hemoglobin concentration and a decrease of deoxygenated hemoglobin concentration in both cerebral hemispheres (Tian et al., 2016)

Depression patients

Disner, Beevers & Gonzalez-Lima, 2016

  • Greater symptom improvement among participants whose attention was responsive to an attention focused cognitive intervention (i.e., attention was directed away from negative stimuli)
