In today’s globalized world, economic activity is increasingly organized through complex transnational supply chains. This reality presents many challenges for the protection of human rights.

A variety of third-party certification schemes and other transnational, non-state models have emerged to prevent, monitor, and respond to rights violations in global supply chains.

What are the possibilities and limitations of these schemes for human rights realization?
