Join us for a panel discussion exploring the question “Seventy-five years after its premiere, is Gone With The Wind still relevant?”
University of Texas at Austin faculty examine Gone With The Wind, the controversy surrounding the film, and its value as a touchstone for the understanding of race, gender, sectionalism, and the Civil War in America. Panelists include Associate Professor of History Daina Ramey Berry, History Department Chair Jacqueline Jones, Professor of American Studies Randolph Lewis, and Radio-Television-Film Professor Thomas Schatz. Associate Professor of English Coleman Hutchison moderates the discussion.
The discussion is in conjunction with the current exhibition The Making of Gone With The Wind, on view through January 4. The program is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome. Seating is first-come, first-served, and doors open at 3:30 p.m.
