Mary Jo Bang is the author of six books of poetry, including Elegy (2007), winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award. Bang’s poetry has been praised for its linguistic energy, subtle imagery, and innovative technique. Mixing philosophical or “post-modern” concerns with chiseled, formal control, Bang’s work has been frequently cast as a pioneering example of “hybrid” poetry. She is a professor in the Writing Program at Washington University in St. Louis. A limited number of free books are available for students who sign up in person at the front desk of the Joynes Reading Room.
