Materials Lab Workshop | Felting

On Tuesday, February 12th 2019, the Materials Lab will be hosting Laura Grenard, M.Arch '12 for a hands-on workshop on the technique of wet felting, which converts loose wool fibers into a non-woven textile through simple mechanical processes. Participants will learn about the origins and architectural applications of felt, and take home an insulated drinking glass sleeve of their own making.

Laura Grenard was born and raised in North Little Rock, AR.  She received her BA in Studio Art & Art History from Hendrix College.  In 2012, she received her Masters in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin.  Prior to moving to Austin, Laura spent several years working in historic preservation in her home state.  She has worked at Baldridge Architects since 2013.

Combining her interests in art and architecture, Laura brings a strong interest in material and medium exploration with a primary focus on the intersection of digital fabrication and the handmade.  Her work ranges from using digitally fabricated formwork to create 3D felted textiles to CNC routed limestone components that aggregate to become customized green walls. Most recently, she has spent her time exploring wheel-thrown ceramics and wood turning
