National Poetry Month Reading & Discussion

In celebration of National Poetry Month 2014, UT Libraries' Ruth Stephan Poetry Collection, English Department, and New Writers Project present an evening of poetry. Dean Young, 2014 Texas Poet Laureate, and Rosemary Catacalos, 2013 Texas Poet Laureate, read from their work and discuss the role of poetry in our daily lives. A discussion and brief Q&A facilitated by poet and poetics scholar Dr. Lisa L. Moore follows.

UT Design students are creating poetry broadsides (graphic-designed posters of a poem and representative artwork) for poems donated by Young and Catacalos. Copies of the broadsides will be distributed to the first 75 people to arrive. Catacalos’ and Young’s recent books will be available at the event.

Co-sponsored by Michener Center for Writers, Humanities Texas, Texas Commission on the Arts, UT Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, UT Design Program, Red Salmon Arts/Resistencia Books. This program is made possible in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
