"Summer Samba" with Brazilian Master Percussionist Aílton Nunes

Brazilian master percussionist Aílton Nunes presents a lecture demonstration at the Yarborough branch of the Austin Public Library, co-sponsored by LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections. Nunes grew up in the community of Mangueira in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since 2010, he has served as Mestre da Bateria da Mangueira (leader of Mangueira Samba School’s carnaval drumline), developing a reputation for surprising innovations in the evolution of samba. Nunes will present an hour-long lecture demonstration on Brazilian percussion, open to all ages.

Nunes is the July 2014 guest of the Austin Samba School, who are working in collaboration with LLILAS Benson and the Austin Public Library to present this event.
