Teaching Physics and Encouraging Young Women to Pursue STEM Fields

This week, the Physics Education Forum will be led by a local high school teacher, Joanna Lucero. Joanna teaches Physics and Geosciences at the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. The curriculum at ARS follows Physics First, scheduling 9th graders to take Physics prior to any other high school science course.

Joanna successfully made the transition from TA to high school teacher, and her current institution is an all-girls college preparatory public school, which gives young women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds the skills and confidence they need to succeed in college, career and life. Joanna will discuss her experiences as a high school science educator, encouraging young women to pursue STEM, her thoughts on the Physics First curriculum, and physics education in general.

Please stop by RLM 6.112 at 3pm on Friday if you are interested! Tea and cakes will be served!
