UT Energy Symposium: Who is that Man Behind the Curtain? Philanthropy’s Role in the Transition to Clean Energy

The UT Energy Symposium is excited to welcome Marilu Hastings, Vice President of Sustainability Programs for the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, who will give a talk titled “Who is that Man Behind the Curtain? Philanthropy’s Role in the Transition to Clean Energy.”

Ms. Hastings directs the foundation’s programs in clean energy, shale sustainability, land conservation, water, and sustainability education. She has a 25-year career specializing in the interaction of science, public policy, and philanthropic investment as they relate to environmental decision-making. Prior to moving to the foundation, Marilu held leadership positions from 1996 to 2008 at the Houston Advanced Research Center, a non-profit sustainability research organization founded by George P. Mitchell. Marilu earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science from Duke University, an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin. She was appointed by Secretary Moniz to the National Petroleum Council and is an advisor or board member for numerous scientific and academic organizations around the country, including the National Academy of Science’s Roundtable on Science and Technology for Sustainability, and the Academy’s Roundtable on Unconventional Hydrocarbon Development.

The UT Energy Symposium meets every Thursday during the long semesters. Come early to attend a networking session before the talk: refreshments will be served at 4:45 p.m. in the POB Connector Lobby outside the auditorium.
