Washers: Performances by Julia Caswell and Madison Weakley

Washers brings together the performances of Visual Art Studies seniors Julia Caswell and Madison Weakley for a dynamic intervention at the Visual Arts Center. Through concurrent activation of their individual works—Weakley's Wash and Caswell's Semi-Automatic Washing Machine—the artists invite the viewer to engage with the notions of rhythm, object relation, and the quotidian that powers each performance.

Weakley and Caswell share an excitement for the everyday, seeing in it the potential to animate their work. Their performances go beyond the simple act of washing clothing, instead emphasizing the cataloguing of memories through associative materials and the resumed relation of movements. Through their actions, Weakley and Caswell offer the viewer a proposal to experience the rhythmic tempo of everyday cycles.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Teeter, on view March 10 - April 7.
