Internship InformationDates: June 1 - August 10, 2026

Interns must be able to commit to 296 hours. The application deadline is March 28th, 2026.

Support: The internship will provide a stipend paid directly to the intern. Housing will be provided in a UT Austin dorm if needed. There is no application fee.

Undergraduate Stipend: $6000 (2 positions available)If the selected undergrad chooses to use on-campus housing and meal plans, the cost will be deducted from their stipend.

Project Description Mobile robots with autonomous navigation capabilities have the potential to replace humans in demanding tasks such as humanitarian assistance, nuclear cleanup, reconnaissance, and transportation. To succeed in these domains, robots must be able to traverse unstructured terrain accurately and reliably while adapting to unforeseen situations much like a human or soldier would.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Student Role: The undergrad intern positions will consist of a combination of software and hardware engineering tasks to aid in autonomous robotics research proposed for primarily ground (wheeled, legged) platforms.

Currently, the Center for Autonomy at UT Austin primarily utilizes two Clearpath Jackals, one Husky, and two Unitree Go2 quadrupeds. The research mentor, Dr. Christian Ellis, and current graduate students will help break down the research thrusts above into discrete tasks that can be completed by students.

Student Deliverables & Expected Participation Gains:

Unique Research Opportunities: Students will integrate large vision-language models with an existing software stack running on real-world robotic hardware.

Valuable Communication Skills: Undergrad students will prepare two 15-minute research presentations.

Presentation 1 (Week 2): Students will define the 5W’s (Who, What, Where, When, and Why) of their scoped project. Presentation 2 (Week 10): Students will outline the research completed during the internship. Students will also prepare a research poster for presentation at the Oden Institute and a brief abstract for inclusion in an AEOP program booklet.

Eligibility RequirementsStudents with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered. Students must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status. The hiring process is non-discriminatory.

The students will have a background in controls and/or robotics, demonstrating an understanding of programming skills (Linux, Python3, ROS) and hardware skills (prototyping, sensor integration).

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion eCard, valid for two years.

Project Description Mobile robots with autonomous navigation capabilities have the potential to replace humans in demanding tasks such as humanitarian assistance, nuclear cleanup, reconnaissance, and transportation. To succeed in these domains, robots must be able to traverse unstructured terrain accurately and reliably while adapting to unforeseen situations much like a human or soldier would.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Student Role: The undergrad intern positions will consist of a combination of software and hardware engineering tasks to aid in autonomous robotics research proposed for primarily ground (wheeled, legged) platforms.

Currently, the Center for Autonomy at UT Austin primarily utilizes two Clearpath Jackals, one Husky, and two Unitree Go2 quadrupeds. Five generations are currently active in today's workforce — each shaped by a different era, a different relationship with work, and a different set of assumptions about how teams should function. That difference produces real friction. And while most of us have been trained to treat friction as a problem, it is often something more useful: a signal that expectations, communication styles, or assumptions have never been made explicit.

This session takes an honest look at what generational difference actually looks like on teams — where it shows up, where it gets misread, and where it may hold people back. We'll also examine what the research does and doesn't tell us about generational identity, including why birth year alone doesn't always tell the full story. Participants will leave with the BRIDGE Framework — six practical, low-lift strategies for working across generational lines that don't require slowing down, a budget, or anyone's approval to begin using.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Presentation 2 (Week 10): Students will outline the research completed during the internship. Students will also prepare a research poster for presentation at the Oden Institute and a brief abstract for inclusion in an AEOP program booklet.

Eligibility RequirementsStudents with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered. Students must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status. The hiring process is non-discriminatory.

The students will have a background in controls and/or robotics, demonstrating an understanding of programming skills (Linux, Python3, ROS) and hardware skills (prototyping, sensor integration).

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion eCard, valid for two years.

In their first year together, Retro Cowgirl had gained local attention and continued to grow their fan base with the support of sponsors and the music community. Project Description Mobile robots with autonomous navigation capabilities have the potential to replace humans in demanding tasks such as humanitarian assistance, nuclear cleanup, reconnaissance, and transportation. To succeed in these domains, robots must be able to traverse unstructured terrain accurately and reliably while adapting to unforeseen situations much like a human or soldier would.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Student Role: The undergrad intern positions will consist of a combination of software and hardware engineering tasks to aid in autonomous robotics research proposed for primarily ground (wheeled, legged) platforms.

Currently, the Center for Autonomy at UT Austin primarily utilizes two Clearpath Jackals, one Husky, and two Unitree Go2 quadrupeds. The research mentor, Dr. Christian Ellis, and current graduate students will help break down the research thrusts above into discrete tasks that can be completed by students.

Student Deliverables & Expected Participation Gains:

This past year, Huey’s songwriting has gained the attention of multiple arts institutions, which have offered her scholarships to visit, write and record across the country. She’s since participated in the Slough Farm residency program in Martha’s Vineyard, MA., where she produced and self-recorded the songs “Passerby” and “Chimes”. She recently returned from the Chalk Hill Artist residency this past February, where she continued writing and recording her record, as well as sharing her songs with the community of Napa Valley.

Currently, Huey has been working on a highly anticipated solo EP, which leans more towards Psych-Folk and is set to release in early 2027. Today, she marks her greatest inspirations in writing to be acts like Joni Mitchell, Nick Drake, S.G. Goodman, and (if we’re talkin’ Southern folk-rock), the Indigo Girls.

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion eCard, valid for two years.

Project Description Mobile robots with autonomous navigation capabilities have the potential to replace humans in demanding tasks such as humanitarian assistance, nuclear cleanup, reconnaissance, and transportation. To succeed in these domains, robots must be able to traverse unstructured terrain accurately and reliably while adapting to unforeseen situations much like a human or soldier would.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Student Role: The undergrad intern positions will consist of a combination of software and hardware engineering tasks to aid in autonomous robotics research proposed for primarily ground (wheeled, legged) platforms.

Currently, the Center for Autonomy at UT Austin primarily utilizes two Clearpath Jackals, one Husky, and two Unitree Go2 quadrupeds. The research mentor, Dr. Christian Ellis, and current graduate students will help break down the research thrusts above into discrete tasks that can be completed by students.

Student Deliverables & Expected Participation Gains:

Unique Research Opportunities: Students will integrate large vision-language models with an existing software stack running on real-world robotic hardware.

Valuable Communication Skills: Undergrad students will prepare two 15-minute research presentations.

Presentation 1 (Week 2): Students will define the 5W’s (Who, What, Where, When, and Why) of their scoped project. Presentation 2 (Week 10): Students will outline the research completed during the internship. Project Description Mobile robots with autonomous navigation capabilities have the potential to replace humans in demanding tasks such as humanitarian assistance, nuclear cleanup, reconnaissance, and transportation. To succeed in these domains, robots must be able to traverse unstructured terrain accurately and reliably while adapting to unforeseen situations much like a human or soldier would.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Student Role: The undergrad intern positions will consist of a combination of software and hardware engineering tasks to aid in autonomous robotics research proposed for primarily ground (wheeled, legged) platforms.

Currently, the Center for Autonomy at UT Austin primarily utilizes two Clearpath Jackals, one Husky, and two Unitree Go2 quadrupeds. The research mentor, Dr. Christian Ellis, and current graduate students will help break down the research thrusts above into discrete tasks that can be completed by students.

Student Deliverables & Expected Participation Gains:

Unique Research Opportunities: Students will integrate large vision-language models with an existing software stack running on real-world robotic hardware.

Valuable Communication Skills: Undergrad students will prepare two 15-minute research presentations.

Presentation 1 (Week 2): Students will define the 5W’s (Who, What, Where, When, and Why) of their scoped project. Presentation 2 (Week 10): Students will outline the research completed during the internship. Students will also prepare a research poster for presentation at the Oden Institute and a brief abstract for inclusion in an AEOP program booklet.

Eligibility RequirementsStudents with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered. Students must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status. The hiring process is non-discriminatory.

The students will have a background in controls and/or robotics, demonstrating an understanding of programming skills (Linux, Python3, ROS) and hardware skills (prototyping, sensor integration).

Project Description Mobile robots with autonomous navigation capabilities have the potential to replace humans in demanding tasks such as humanitarian assistance, nuclear cleanup, reconnaissance, and transportation. To succeed in these domains, robots must be able to traverse unstructured terrain accurately and reliably while adapting to unforeseen situations much like a human or soldier would.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Student Role: The undergrad intern positions will consist of a combination of software and hardware engineering tasks to aid in autonomous robotics research proposed for primarily ground (wheeled, legged) platforms.

Currently, the Center for Autonomy at UT Austin primarily utilizes two Clearpath Jackals, one Husky, and two Unitree Go2 quadrupeds. The research mentor, Dr. Christian Ellis, and current graduate students will help break down the research thrusts above into discrete tasks that can be completed by students.

Student Deliverables & Expected Participation Gains:

Unique Research Opportunities: Students will integrate large vision-language models with an existing software stack running on real-world robotic hardware.

Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion eCard, valid for two years.

Interns must be able to commit to 296 hours. The application deadline is March 28th, 2026.

Project Description Mobile robots with autonomous navigation capabilities have the potential to replace humans in demanding tasks such as humanitarian assistance, nuclear cleanup, reconnaissance, and transportation. To succeed in these domains, robots must be able to traverse unstructured terrain accurately and reliably while adapting to unforeseen situations much like a human or soldier would.

This internship project focuses on advancing autonomous navigation within an existing software stack, while also verifying both new and existing behaviors using large language models. The effort integrates recent advances in autonomous robotics, formal methods, and language-based reasoning, leveraging robotic sensor data and intermediate outputs in conjunction with human-written specifications to enable safe navigation.

The resulting software will be implemented and demonstrated on in-house robotic platforms equipped with the ARL software stack and representative sensor suites, operating in unstructured, real-world environments.

Student Role: The undergrad intern positions will consist of a combination of software and hardware engineering tasks to aid in autonomous robotics research proposed for primarily ground (wheeled, legged) platforms.

Currently, the Center for Autonomy at UT Austin primarily utilizes two Clearpath Jackals, one Husky, and two Unitree Go2 quadrupeds. The research mentor, Dr. Christian Ellis, and current graduate students will help break down the research thrusts above into discrete tasks that can be completed by students.

Student Deliverables & Expected Participation Gains:

Unique Research Opportunities: Students will integrate large vision-language models with an existing software stack running on real-world robotic hardware.

Valuable Communication Skills: Undergrad students will prepare two 15-minute research presentations.

Presentation 1 (Week 2): Students will define the 5W’s (Who, What, Where, When, and Why) of their scoped project. Presentation 2 (Week 10): Students will outline the research completed during the internship. Students will also prepare a research poster for presentation at the Oden Institute and a brief abstract for inclusion in an AEOP program booklet.

Eligibility RequirementsStudents with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered. Students must be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status. The hiring process is non-discriminatory.

The students will have a background in controls and/or robotics, demonstrating an understanding of programming skills (Linux, Python3, ROS) and hardware skills (prototyping, sensor integration).

ADMISSION: Summer Storytime is free with museum admission, and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Free admission every Tuesday is generously provided by the Moody Family Free Day Endowment.

DATES: Summer Storytime will take place on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. & 10:45 a.m. starting June 2 and ending August 11. Can’t make it on Tuesdays? The Blanton also offers Storytime sessions at Blanton All Day, our monthly all-day art event. Learn more and get your Blanton All Day tickets on our website.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: To protect the art, we don’t permit diaper bags, backpacks larger than 11 x 15 inches, or large- framed child carriers in the galleries. These can be stored in our free lockers in the Smith Building. You’re welcome to use soft frontpacks and strollers inside the museum. We also have a designated space to store strollers—ask our Visitor Services team at Check-In. Paid parking is available in the Brazos Garage on Brazos Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Blanton Members receive $4 discounted parking—bring your parking ticket to the Visitor Services Desk for payment. General visitors pay regular rates directly at Brazos Garage.
