The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.

This statewide contest encourages individuals to reflect on the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” through creative expression. Submissions may include traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing, and should explore emotions, challenges well-being, healing, or everyday experiences related to mental health.

The contest aims to reduce stigma, spark conversation, and highlight diverse voices across Texas by using art as a tool for connection and understanding.

Contest winners have the opportunity to have their art displayed in virtual and in-person galleries.

Eligibility: Open to all Texas residents, youth and adults

UT CONNECT brings together Masters, PhD's, and Post-docs with Community Organizations to assist in data, research, and evaluation projects.

These short-term (3-4 months) projects, help organizations understand their client or community landscape, gain meaningful insight into their work, and achieve their desired social impact. In return, students gain experience in delivering high-quality, actionable work to support the organizations work for years to come.

Projects are primarily remote and asynchronous, with optional meetings determined by the student-organization team.

At Group1, we are proud to steward the final battery innovation of 2019 Chemistry Nobel Laureate and UT

Professor John B. Goodenough, and bring to the world the first potassium-ion battery platform that is

critical-mineral-free, high performance, and fundamentally safer than today’s lithium-ion systems. This

technology enables a complete domestic supply chain—ultimately helping secure American energy

sovereignty. This is a big vision, a big mission, and it requires people with similar appetites.

The Role

We are seeking up to two Lab Technician Interns to support a broad range of laboratory, development, and

scale-up activities. This is intentionally a generalist role: interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of battery

and materials development and will be molded over time based on aptitude, curiosity, and company needs. This

internship is viewed as a pipeline to full-time employment for exceptional performers.

What You’ll Work On

• Materials synthesis, preparation, and characterization support

• Electrode processing and coating workflows

• Cell assembly and basic electrochemical testing

• Electrolyte formulation, mixing, and handling (training provided)

• Glovebox operation and air-sensitive materials handling (training provided)

• Supporting scale-up, process refinement, and lab operations

• Experiment logging, data organization, and documentation

• Exposure to data analytics and AI-enabled workflows (a plus)

Who We’re Looking For

• Undergraduate students preferred; Master’s students considered

• Pursuing Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering

• Curious, high-agency, self-motivated builders; careful hands

• Comfortable with hands-on experimental work and precision tasks

• Familiarity with AI tools / data workflows is a plus (not required)

Logistics & Requirements

• On-site role; must be able to commute 30–40 minutes south of Austin

• Paid internship; flexible hours (10–20 hrs/week during school; up to 40 hrs/week in summer)

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship now or in the future)

• Internship duration ideally 10–12+ weeks

Why This Internship

This is a hands-on opportunity inside a deep-tech startup where the learning curve feels less like a traditional

company and more like drinking from a fire hose. Interns will touch real hardware, learn at an accelerated pace,

The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.

This statewide contest encourages individuals to reflect on the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” through creative expression. Submissions may include traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing, and should explore emotions, challenges well-being, healing, or everyday experiences related to mental health.

The contest aims to reduce stigma, spark conversation, and highlight diverse voices across Texas by using art as a tool for connection and understanding.

Contest winners have the opportunity to have their art displayed in virtual and in-person galleries.

At Group1, we are proud to steward the final battery innovation of 2019 Chemistry Nobel Laureate and UT

Professor John B. Goodenough, and bring to the world the first potassium-ion battery platform that is

critical-mineral-free, high performance, and fundamentally safer than today’s lithium-ion systems. This

technology enables a complete domestic supply chain—ultimately helping secure American energy

sovereignty. This is a big vision, a big mission, and it requires people with similar appetites.

The Role

We are seeking up to two Lab Technician Interns to support a broad range of laboratory, development, and

scale-up activities. This is intentionally a generalist role: interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of battery

and materials development and will be molded over time based on aptitude, curiosity, and company needs. This

internship is viewed as a pipeline to full-time employment for exceptional performers.

What You’ll Work On

• Materials synthesis, preparation, and characterization support

• Electrode processing and coating workflows

• Cell assembly and basic electrochemical testing

• Electrolyte formulation, mixing, and handling (training provided)

• Glovebox operation and air-sensitive materials handling (training provided)

• Supporting scale-up, process refinement, and lab operations

• Experiment logging, data organization, and documentation

• Exposure to data analytics and AI-enabled workflows (a plus)

Who We’re Looking For

The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.

This statewide contest encourages individuals to reflect on the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” through creative expression. Submissions may include traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing, and should explore emotions, challenges well-being, healing, or everyday experiences related to mental health.

The contest aims to reduce stigma, spark conversation, and highlight diverse voices across Texas by using art as a tool for connection and understanding.

Contest winners have the opportunity to have their art displayed in virtual and in-person galleries.

These short-term (3-4 months) projects, help organizations understand their client or community landscape, gain meaningful insight into their work, and achieve their desired social impact. In return, students gain experience in delivering high-quality, actionable work to support the organizations work for years to come.

Projects are primarily remote and asynchronous, with optional meetings determined by the student-organization team.

At Group1, we are proud to steward the final battery innovation of 2019 Chemistry Nobel Laureate and UT

Professor John B. Goodenough, and bring to the world the first potassium-ion battery platform that is

critical-mineral-free, high performance, and fundamentally safer than today’s lithium-ion systems. This

technology enables a complete domestic supply chain—ultimately helping secure American energy

sovereignty. This is a big vision, a big mission, and it requires people with similar appetites.

The Role

We are seeking up to two Lab Technician Interns to support a broad range of laboratory, development, and

scale-up activities. This is intentionally a generalist role: interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of battery

and materials development and will be molded over time based on aptitude, curiosity, and company needs. This

internship is viewed as a pipeline to full-time employment for exceptional performers.

What You’ll Work On

• Materials synthesis, preparation, and characterization support

• Electrode processing and coating workflows

• Cell assembly and basic electrochemical testing

• Electrolyte formulation, mixing, and handling (training provided)

• Glovebox operation and air-sensitive materials handling (training provided)

• Supporting scale-up, process refinement, and lab operations

• Experiment logging, data organization, and documentation

• Exposure to data analytics and AI-enabled workflows (a plus)

Who We’re Looking For

• Undergraduate students preferred; Master’s students considered

• Pursuing Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering

• Curious, high-agency, self-motivated builders; careful hands

• Comfortable with hands-on experimental work and precision tasks

• On-site role; must be able to commute 30–40 minutes south of Austin

You will be enrolled in the study for 4 weeks.

You will:

1. Have 3 study visit

-the first lasting 4 hours

-the 2nd and 3rd lasting 30 minutes

2. Complete a 2 hour oral glucose tolerance test, including 5 blood draws

3. Wear a constant glucose monitor for 2 weeks, complete a food diary, and complete three 24 hour food recall using an electronic link.

4. Meet with a nurse

5. Follow up questionnaire at 4 weeks

The Role

We are seeking up to two Lab Technician Interns to support a broad range of laboratory, development, and

scale-up activities. This is intentionally a generalist role: interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of battery

and materials development and will be molded over time based on aptitude, curiosity, and company needs. This

internship is viewed as a pipeline to full-time employment for exceptional performers.

What You’ll Work On

• Materials synthesis, preparation, and characterization support

• Electrode processing and coating workflows

• Cell assembly and basic electrochemical testing

• Electrolyte formulation, mixing, and handling (training provided)

• Glovebox operation and air-sensitive materials handling (training provided)

• Supporting scale-up, process refinement, and lab operations

• Experiment logging, data organization, and documentation

• Exposure to data analytics and AI-enabled workflows (a plus)

Who We’re Looking For

• Undergraduate students preferred; Master’s students considered

• Pursuing Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering

• Curious, high-agency, self-motivated builders; careful hands

• Comfortable with hands-on experimental work and precision tasks

• Familiarity with AI tools / data workflows is a plus (not required)

Logistics & Requirements

• On-site role; must be able to commute 30–40 minutes south of Austin

• Paid internship; flexible hours (10–20 hrs/week during school; up to 40 hrs/week in summer)

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship now or in the future)

• Internship duration ideally 10–12+ weeks

This is a hands-on opportunity inside a deep-tech startup where the learning curve feels less like a traditional

company and more like drinking from a fire hose. Interns will touch real hardware, learn at an accelerated pace,

The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.

This statewide contest encourages individuals to reflect on the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” through creative expression. Submissions may include traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing, and should explore emotions, challenges well-being, healing, or everyday experiences related to mental health.

The contest aims to reduce stigma, spark conversation, and highlight diverse voices across Texas by using art as a tool for connection and understanding.

Contest winners have the opportunity to have their art displayed in virtual and in-person galleries.

These short-term (3-4 months) projects, help organizations understand their client or community landscape, gain meaningful insight into their work, and achieve their desired social impact. In return, students gain experience in delivering high-quality, actionable work to support the organizations work for years to come.

You will be enrolled in the study for 4 weeks.

You will:

1. Have 3 study visit

-the first lasting 4 hours

-the 2nd and 3rd lasting 30 minutes

2. Complete a 2 hour oral glucose tolerance test, including 5 blood draws

3. Wear a constant glucose monitor for 2 weeks, complete a food diary, and complete three 24 hour food recall using an electronic link.

4. Meet with a nurse

5. Follow up questionnaire at 4 weeks

The project’s director, Dr. Pablo Kuri, will discuss how OriGen was developed, its significance, its current state, and future directions.

Dr. Kuri is a physician and epidemiologist with over three decades of experience in health security, pandemics, and health systems. Prior to leading Project OriGen, Dr. Kuri was Director General of Epidemiology and of the National Center for Epidemiological Surveillance and Disease Control at the Ministry of Health. As Undersecretary of Health, he was responsible for Mexico's response to threats such as anthrax, SARS, influenza, Ebola, and Zika, among others. He was a professor on the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) for 34 years and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and Academic Secretary of the National Council of Public Health.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez

Born in San Antonio, Texas, he received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a master’s degree from the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs, a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas Law School, and a Master of Laws in Judicial Studies from Duke University, Bloch Judicial Institute. Prior to assuming the bench, he was a partner in the international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski (now known as Norton Rose Fulbright). He was board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s Corps and has served on the board of directors of several charitable organizations across Texas.

State Representative Gene Wu, Chair of the House Democratic Caucus

State Representative Gene Wu proudly serves the people of District 137 in the Texas House. Prior to being elected in 2012, he served as a prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, where he sought justice for thousands of crime victims. Gene is currently an attorney in private practice.

Since being elected State Representative, Gene has maintained a focus on improving the lives of Texas children. Gene has authored numerous pieces of legislation supporting greater justice for juveniles; specifically fighting the school to prison pipeline and passing comprehensive CPS reform. Gene has also been appointed to the Texas Access to Justice Commission, and the Texas State Child Fatality Review Team.

Now in his 7th term, Gene has been appointed Vice Chair of the House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence. He also serves on the House Permanent Standing Subcommittee on Juvenile Justice, the Committee on Redistricting, and on the Appropriations Committee.

Outside his legislative work, Gene remains active and involved in the Houston community. Gene currently serves on community advocacy organization boards such as the OCA-Greater Houston Advisory Board, the Chinese Community Center Advisory Board, and the Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Centers Advisory Committee. As an attorney, Gene serves as a Guardian Ad-Litem representing minors in court in either criminal or CPS cases. Additionally, Gene is passionate in supporting young people becoming active in civic roles, and is proud advocate for the AAPI community across Texas and the nation.

Gene grew up in the Southwest Houston neighborhood of Sharpstown. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree from Texas A&M University, a Master’s Degree from the LBJ School for Public Affairs at the University of Texas in Austin, and a Law Degree from the South Texas College of Law in Houston.

Gene and his wife, Miya, reside in Southwest Houston. They are the proud parents of two sons, Winston and Lyndon.

State Senator Carol Alvarado, Chair of the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus

Senator Carol Alvarado is proud to serve Texas Senate District 6 in Harris County and was first elected in a 2018 Special Election.

In 2008, she was elected to the Texas House of Representatives and served five terms representing District 145. She served as the Chair of the Urban Affairs Committee and Co-Chair of the Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations. Now in her fourth term in the Texas Senate, Carol serves on the Senate Committees on Finance, Economic Development, Natural Resources, Nominations and Congressional Redistricting.

Carol also serves as the Chair of the Texas Senate Democratic Caucus. Carol's primary legislative focus has been on economic development, public health and public education. She has championed legislation aimed at strengthening our state's workforce, helping small businesses succeed, creating tools to recruit businesses to relocate to Texas, regulating the use of e-cigarettes for children and criminal justice reform.

Carol is an advocate for women's health and reproductive rights and has passed legislation to assist victims of sexual abuse. She is also a strong advocate for voting rights and ensuring access to the ballot.

As a member of the Houston City Council from 2002-2008, Carol led the effort to make restaurants smoke free, stopped the shipping of more hazardous chemicals through our neighborhoods, and had air quality monitors installed in neighborhoods near chemical plants.

Carol is a native Houstonian and longtime resident of Houston's East End. She holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Houston and is a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez

Born in San Antonio, Texas, he received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, a master’s degree from the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs, a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Texas Law School, and a Master of Laws in Judicial Studies from Duke University, Bloch Judicial Institute. The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.

At Group1, we are proud to steward the final battery innovation of 2019 Chemistry Nobel Laureate and UT

Professor John B. Goodenough, and bring to the world the first potassium-ion battery platform that is

critical-mineral-free, high performance, and fundamentally safer than today’s lithium-ion systems. This

technology enables a complete domestic supply chain—ultimately helping secure American energy

sovereignty. This is a big vision, a big mission, and it requires people with similar appetites.

The Role

We are seeking up to two Lab Technician Interns to support a broad range of laboratory, development, and

scale-up activities. This is intentionally a generalist role: interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of battery

and materials development and will be molded over time based on aptitude, curiosity, and company needs. This

internship is viewed as a pipeline to full-time employment for exceptional performers.

What You’ll Work On

• Materials synthesis, preparation, and characterization support

• Electrode processing and coating workflows

• Cell assembly and basic electrochemical testing

• Electrolyte formulation, mixing, and handling (training provided)

• Glovebox operation and air-sensitive materials handling (training provided)

• Supporting scale-up, process refinement, and lab operations

• Experiment logging, data organization, and documentation

• Exposure to data analytics and AI-enabled workflows (a plus)

Who We’re Looking For

• Undergraduate students preferred; Master’s students considered

Speaker Biography:Dr. Sara Eftekharnejad is an Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at Syracuse University. Her research focuses on power grid operations and planning, as well as the grid integration of distributed energy resources. Bringing over a decade of combined experience in academia and industry, she previously held positions at the University of Idaho and Tucson Electric Power Company. Dr. Eftekharnejad earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2012. Her contributions to power and energy research are supported by multiple grants, most notably the prestigious 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award.

Abstract:Integrating distributed and variable energy resources (VERs) while maintaining real-time situational awareness is a central challenge in modernizing the power grid. As higher penetrations of intermittent generation, such as wind and solar, are integrated into the power grids, system operations become increasingly dependent on dynamic weather conditions. This shift, combined with more frequent severe weather events, introduces significant stochastic uncertainty into the grid, complicating economic dispatch and reducing overall system inertia. To manage this volatility, operators require accurate, high-resolution forecasting of VER generation. Beyond routine operations, ensuring reliability demands predictive models that can anticipate system vulnerabilities and prevent localized failures from cascading into widespread blackouts. Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Syracuse University

Speaker Biography:

Dr. Sara Eftekharnejad is an Associate Professor in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department at Syracuse University. Her research focuses on power grid operations and planning, as well as the grid integration of distributed energy resources. Bringing over a decade of combined experience in academia and industry, she previously held positions at the University of Idaho and Tucson Electric Power Company. Dr. Eftekharnejad earned her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2012. Her contributions to power and energy research are supported by multiple grants, most notably the prestigious 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award.

Abstract:

Integrating distributed and variable energy resources (VERs) while maintaining real-time situational awareness is a central challenge in modernizing the power grid. As higher penetrations of intermittent generation, such as wind and solar, are integrated into the power grids, system operations become increasingly dependent on dynamic weather conditions. This shift, combined with more frequent severe weather events, introduces significant stochastic uncertainty into the grid, complicating economic dispatch and reducing overall system inertia. To manage this volatility, operators require accurate, high-resolution forecasting of VER generation. Beyond routine operations, ensuring reliability demands predictive models that can anticipate system vulnerabilities and prevent localized failures from cascading into widespread blackouts. About the UT Energy Symposium:

The UT Energy Symposium is a weekly guest lecture series that is both free and open to the public and available for course credit.

In an effort to provide a multi-disciplinary platform for UT faculty and students to interact on the most pressing energy issues facing our world, the Energy Institute sponsors the UT Energy Symposium (UTES), which will enter its 30th semester in spring 2026. 

The UTES serves as a “convener” for the campus community, uniting students interested in energy issues with faculty and others working on sustainable energy security. Students who register for the symposium receive one credit hour for the 15-week seminar course, which is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Ongoing themes for UTES include climate change policy, innovation and diffusion of energy technologies, low-carbon technology options and status, and behavioral aspects of energy consumption.

Each UTES talk will be recorded and posted on this page and on the Energy Institute YouTube channel following the event.

The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.

Submissions may include traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing, and should explore emotions, challenges well-being, healing, or everyday experiences related to mental health.

The contest aims to reduce stigma, spark conversation, and highlight diverse voices across Texas by using art as a tool for connection and understanding.

These short-term (3-4 months) projects, help organizations understand their client or community landscape, gain meaningful insight into their work, and achieve their desired social impact. In return, students gain experience in delivering high-quality, actionable work to support the organizations work for years to come.

At Group1, we are proud to steward the final battery innovation of 2019 Chemistry Nobel Laureate and UT

Professor John B. Goodenough, and bring to the world the first potassium-ion battery platform that is

critical-mineral-free, high performance, and fundamentally safer than today’s lithium-ion systems. This

technology enables a complete domestic supply chain—ultimately helping secure American energy

sovereignty. This is a big vision, a big mission, and it requires people with similar appetites.

The Role

We are seeking up to two Lab Technician Interns to support a broad range of laboratory, development, and

scale-up activities. This is intentionally a generalist role: interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of battery

and materials development and will be molded over time based on aptitude, curiosity, and company needs. This

internship is viewed as a pipeline to full-time employment for exceptional performers.

What You’ll Work On

• Materials synthesis, preparation, and characterization support

• Electrode processing and coating workflows

• Cell assembly and basic electrochemical testing

• Electrolyte formulation, mixing, and handling (training provided)

• Glovebox operation and air-sensitive materials handling (training provided)

• Supporting scale-up, process refinement, and lab operations

• Experiment logging, data organization, and documentation

• Exposure to data analytics and AI-enabled workflows (a plus)

Who We’re Looking For

• Undergraduate students preferred; Master’s students considered

• Pursuing Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering

• Curious, high-agency, self-motivated builders; careful hands

• Comfortable with hands-on experimental work and precision tasks

• Familiarity with AI tools / data workflows is a plus (not required)

• On-site role; must be able to commute 30–40 minutes south of Austin

• Paid internship; flexible hours (10–20 hrs/week during school; up to 40 hrs/week in summer)

The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.

This statewide contest encourages individuals to reflect on the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” through creative expression. Submissions may include traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing, and should explore emotions, challenges well-being, healing, or everyday experiences related to mental health.

The contest aims to reduce stigma, spark conversation, and highlight diverse voices across Texas by using art as a tool for connection and understanding.

Contest winners have the opportunity to have their art displayed in virtual and in-person galleries.

2. Complete a 2 hour oral glucose tolerance test, including 5 blood draws

These short-term (3-4 months) projects, help organizations understand their client or community landscape, gain meaningful insight into their work, and achieve their desired social impact. In return, students gain experience in delivering high-quality, actionable work to support the organizations work for years to come.

Projects are primarily remote and asynchronous, with optional meetings determined by the student-organization team.

At Group1, we are proud to steward the final battery innovation of 2019 Chemistry Nobel Laureate and UT

Professor John B. Goodenough, and bring to the world the first potassium-ion battery platform that is

critical-mineral-free, high performance, and fundamentally safer than today’s lithium-ion systems. This

technology enables a complete domestic supply chain—ultimately helping secure American energy

sovereignty. This is a big vision, a big mission, and it requires people with similar appetites.

The Role

We are seeking up to two Lab Technician Interns to support a broad range of laboratory, development, and

scale-up activities. This is intentionally a generalist role: interns will be exposed to multiple aspects of battery

and materials development and will be molded over time based on aptitude, curiosity, and company needs. This

internship is viewed as a pipeline to full-time employment for exceptional performers.

What You’ll Work On

• Materials synthesis, preparation, and characterization support

• Electrode processing and coating workflows

• Cell assembly and basic electrochemical testing

• Electrolyte formulation, mixing, and handling (training provided)

• Glovebox operation and air-sensitive materials handling (training provided)

• Supporting scale-up, process refinement, and lab operations

• Experiment logging, data organization, and documentation

• Exposure to data analytics and AI-enabled workflows (a plus)

Who We’re Looking For

• Undergraduate students preferred; Master’s students considered

• Pursuing Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or Engineering

• Curious, high-agency, self-motivated builders; careful hands

• Comfortable with hands-on experimental work and precision tasks

• Familiarity with AI tools / data workflows is a plus (not required)

Logistics & Requirements

• On-site role; must be able to commute 30–40 minutes south of Austin

• Paid internship; flexible hours (10–20 hrs/week during school; up to 40 hrs/week in summer)

• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (no visa sponsorship now or in the future)

• Internship duration ideally 10–12+ weeks

This is a hands-on opportunity inside a deep-tech startup where the learning curve feels less like a traditional

company and more like drinking from a fire hose. Interns will touch real hardware, learn at an accelerated pace,

Stroud is a Fellow of the International Communication Association and the Annenberg Public Policy Center. Stroud’s research on the media’s role in a democracy has received numerous national and international awards, including the International Communication Association (ICA)'s prestigious Outstanding Book Award for her book Niche News: The Politics of News Choice, and the inaugural Public Engagement Award from the Journalism Studies Division of the ICA. About the speaker:

Richard A. Hinojosa graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006. After being accepted to medical school and attending for a short period, Richard took some time off and worked at The Texas Civil Rights Project in Austin, Texas. It was there that Richard found his true calling. Richard received his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center in 2010. He immediately began work as an associate attorney at a prestigious labor and employment defense law firm.

Richard decided to start his own law firm because he had a desire to work with clients who found themselves in difficult situations. Richard believes that with hard work, a creative approach, and a zealous but respectful attitude, any legal situation can be solved. With those principles at the forefront of his firm, Richard opened the doors to Hinojosa Law, PLLC, in 2011.

Richard also serves as a director on the Houston Parks Board, the University of Texas Natural Sciences Advisory Board, and the University of Texas School of Human Ecology Advisory Board. He volunteers as a basketball and flag football coach, and his family has endowed a scholarship for students from the mid-Rio Grande Valley attending the University of Texas at Austin.

About Jake Skeets:

Jake Skeets is the author of two books of poetry, Eyes Bottle Dark with a Mouthful of Flowers, winner of the National Poetry Series, American Book Award, Kate Tufts Discovery Award, and Whiting Award, and the highly anticipated second collection, Horses. His work has appeared in journals and magazines such as Poetry, The New York Times Magazine, and The Paris Review. Other honors include an NEA Grant for Arts Projects, a Mellon Projecting All Voices Fellowship, and the 2023-2024 Grisham Writer in Residence at the University of Mississippi. He is the third Navajo Nation Poet Laureate and teaches at the University of Oklahoma.

This year’s speaker is Dr. Martin Chalfie, a 2008 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, who contributed to the discovery and development of green fluorescent protein in Aequorea victoria jellyfish. Dr. Chalfie will be presenting on “The Continuous Need for Useless Knowledge”, arguing that “useless knowledge” is much needed today to improve human well-being and health. Since several Nobel Prizes have been awarded for discoveries not fully related to what was initially studied, it may well be that things perceived as unnecessary may enable future scientific revolutions.

SHARE Communities are weekly student-led groups where peers with similar interests, concerns, or wellness goals can find community and social connection that goes beyond surface-level. They are places to step away from the grind and let down the mask, where mutual support, imperfection, and “real” conversations are the expectation rather than the exception. SHARE Communities were created to combat loneliness on campus by giving students a place to be themselves and feel at home, and where their resources and wisdom can directly benefit others going through similar struggles.

Note: Facilitating a SHARE Community is an academic course requirement for the trained student SHARE Support Specialists. Community topics are all selected by the co-facilitators based on their own interests. SHARE Communities are not a replacement for clinical mental health services.

The first competition between football teams from the University of Texas and Texas A&M took place in Austin over 130 years ago in 1894, on a roped-off field two miles north of campus around what is now 44th Street and Duval. Texas won 38-0, and like this first, lopsided score, the Horns have remained dominant over the years with an all-time record of 77-37-5. Not limited to football, anytime the Longhorns and Farmers square off in any sport, more is on the line than just the game. From its founding in 1883, The University of Texas seemed to be in full opposition to Texas AMC. It offered higher education that focused on liberal arts and the humanities and its campus was located in beautiful, downtown Austin. Once sport became a part of campus life, friction between the rural, conservative “Farmers” of A&M and the big-city “Steers” of Texas grew into a true rivalry. We tell “aggie jokes.” They call us “t-sips.” Our fight songs bid each other farewell.

In 1900, the Texas and Texas A&M football teams faced off on Thanksgiving Day for the first time, rooting the rivalry deep within Texan culture for many generations of Aggies, Longhorns, and the unaffiliated. The game has always carried such immense cultural significance, that when Texas A&M left the Big 12 Conference for the Southeast Conference in 2012, state legislators attempted to pass a bill to restore the rivalry a year later; Governor Greg Abbott pushed an agenda of political compromise when he articulated his desire to bring back the game during a 2019 address of the legislative session. In 2024, the rivalry finally renewed when Texas joined the SEC and reappeared on Aggie football schedules. This year marks the 120th Texas versus Texas A&M football game. In celebration, this exhibit pays tribute to the great players, coaches, history, hijinks, and traditions that have made the Lone Star Showdown mean so much to so many, and the so many more to come.
