The 5th annual Digital Preservation Symposium brings together archivists, librarians, faculty, IT professionals, curators, graduate students, undergraduate students and others willing to share their experiences and contribute their perspectives on digital preservation and long-term access.

In 2015, we launched the symposium to engage others on the campus, share challenges and opportunities, and build a community around digital preservation as a campus-wide concern. Over the past four years, we have heard presentations about post-custodial archives, preserving institutional data, the evolution of scholarly research, and many examples of data management, recovery, migrations, and transformations.

            2015 Mapping the Digital Landscape

            2016 Intersections: Identifying Transformative Collaborations

2017 Breakdown: The Space Between Action and Expectation

            2018 Building Community

At the end of the symposium last year, the conversation turned to thinking about the 2019 Digital Preservation Symposium as an opportunity to reflect on what we have accomplished, revisit successes and failures, and reimagine what we need to sustain our work.

We invite proposals for lightning talks about your digital projects and preservation. Lightning talks are 2-5 minutes and can be a presentation or pitch for a completed project, a project currently underway, or a project you just started thinking about AND its contribution to digital preservation. Submit a brief abstract (40 words) to indicate your interest in giving a lightning talk by Monday, April 8. Speakers will be notified by April 15 and any presentation slides will be due by April 22

At the University of Texas at Austin, we work to seek funding for digital humanities and data-intensive research; ensure that digital information remains accessible and usable; plan, allocate resources, and apply preservation methods; and confronting challenges of media failure and technological change. Join us on April 26 to be part of social and technical infrastructure for digital preservation and help shape the digital legacy of the University of Texas!

Register to attend or submit a lightning talk herehttps://goo.gl/forms/CcI2PTq02yJSinKt1

Remember: registering helps us plan for refreshments!
