Planning and Understanding Exhibits class\, All Dolled Up: Playing with Id
entity in 1940s Paper Dolls is an exhibit about celebrity\, identity\, pla
y\, and\, yes\, paper dolls. Join us for our exhibit reception on November
10\, learn about how 1940s views of women were reflected in the paper dol
ls of the era\, and play with your own identity\, as you make your own pap
er doll!\n\nThis exhibit features eleven paper doll books from a collectio
n donated to the University’s School of Human Ecology. The display bring
s together a selection of paper dolls that demonstrate the cultural messag
es conveyed to young girls in the 1940s. From stewardesses to WWII patriot
s to starlets\, the paper dolls depict an idealized feminine appearance th
at influenced the way young girls constructed their own private and public
identities. The exhibit includes paper dolls of classic Hollywood movie s
tars such as Rita Hayworth\, Bette Davis\, Claudette Colbert\, and child a
ctress Jane Withers.\n\nFind us on the first floor of the UTA building\, a
 t 1616 Guadalupe St. Austin\, TX\, outside of classroom 1.506 from 2:30 to
3:30. We will have free food and activities\, it’s going to be swell!
