Dr. Pinedo is seeking to hire a bilingual (Spanish/English) qualitative interviewer to work on this short-term research project. Approximately 42 in-depth interviews will be conducted by phone with persons who report a recent substance use disorder (SUD). Of these interviews, 12 will be specifically conducted with Spanish-speaking Latinos. The qualitative interviewer will be responsible for contacting potential participants (via email or phone), scheduling participants, and conducting the interview via telephone using a semi-structured interview guide. Other responsibilities will include tracking participant incentives, post-collection data entry, coding, and analysis. Work will take place during the week in Dr. Pinedo’s lab. Once hired, a regular schedule will be worked out.

Timeline

Data collection is expected to begin in mid/late January or early February. The project is expected to end by May/June. The period of employment will be within this time frame. Possibility of extending till summer, depending on funding.

Compensation

This position will pay $25 an hour.

Required Qualifications

  • Fluent in Spanish (Spanish speaking ability will be assessed during the interview)
  • Ability to work 10 hours/week (flexible hours)
  • Past qualitative interviewing experience
  • Comfort speaking on sensitive topics (e.g., alcohol and drug use)
  • Graduate-level student status at UT Austin

 

Preferred Minimum Qualifications

  • Interest in health disparities, Latino health, and/or substance abuse
  • Experience and/or knowledge of qualitative methods
