Great Conversations is an evening of good food, good company, and GREAT conversations held annually to raise money to support the programs of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life. The event brings together state and local community leaders to engage in stimulating conversation on topics relevant to civic life.
The theme of Great Conversations 2019 is "The Renewal of Common Ground," to be held at the AT&T Executive Education Conference Center on Tuesday, February 26, 2019. Honorary 2019 event Co-Chairs are Rusty Kelley and Del Williams. Dr. Larry Faulkner, former President of the University of Texas at Austin and Chancellor of the University of Texas System will be presented with the Shirley Bird Perry Longhorn Citizenship Award.
Approximately 40 student leaders will be selected to facilitate a half-hour conversation among the guests seated at their dinner table. This responsibility includes posing questions and working to ensure everyone has an opportunity to contribute to the discussion. As a student conversation leader, your name will be printed in the event program and included on the event website. You will receive complimentary admission to the Great Conversation VIP reception and dinner and training on how to facilitate conversations. A few student conversation leaders will also be selected to have a speaking role as part of the opening program, sharing with the attendees your vision and ideas for civic and political life. Student conversation leaders must be enrolled at a Texas college or university for the 2019 spring semester. Applications are due by 8 pm on January 15.
