We are conducting a study to increase our understanding about the brain and cognitive changes that occur following diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. We use neuroimaging and machine learning to predict patients that are at the highest risk for chemotherapy cognitive impairment.

To participate you must be a female between the ages of 35 and 68, able to read and speak English or Spanish, do not have metallic implants, permanent orthodontia, or claustrophobia, and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and have not begun chemotherapy.
  • Are a breast cancer survivor who has completed chemotherapy.
  • A healthy female volunteer.

You will be asked to complete 2 study visits, the first one at enrollment and the second 12-14 months after your first study visit. Each study visit involves a brief phone call (~10 minutes) to enroll, a questionnaire (~60 minutes), a computerized test of memory, thinking and attention skills (10-15 mins), and a brain MRI scan (~40 mins).

You will receive a $75 gift card per visit for participating.

Contact: Please contact us to discuss how you can participate by emailing kesler.lab@austin.utexas.edu. You may also visit our lab website for more information about the study: https://nursing.utexas.edu/research/knl/pac-ai-study
