We are conducting a study to examine brain health prior to and after chemotherapy treatment in order to predict which patients will experience cognitive difficulties (such as problems with thinking and remembering) later on. The study will involve the following procedures:

  • Brain MRI scan: a non-invasive way of taking pictures of the brain. It does not involve any injections, radiation or other harmful effects.
  • Cognitive tests: paper or computerized measures ofattention, processing speed, memory, and language skills.
  • Blood draw: approximately 2 teaspoons of blood will be drawn from the arm at one study visit.
  • Saliva sample: a swab of the inside of the mouth at one study visit.

These procedures will be completed at 2 different visits: at enrollment and again approximately 1 year later.

We are looking for:

  • Women newly diagnosed with breast cancer who have not yet begun chemotherapy treatment age 35-68
  • Women with no history of cancer age 35-68

You will receive $75 for each visit.
