"Crossing Borders and Building Bridges" is a celebration of Maria Martin's ground-breaking 40-year career in public radio.
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists 2015 Hall of Fame honoree, Martin is founder of LatinoUSA and a pioneer in bilingual public radio in the United States. NPR's first Latino Affairs editor, Martin is a longtime board member of Youth Radio and the GraciasVida Center for Media (Guatemala), and an award-winning documentarian.
Two panels include remarks by John Burnett and Mandalit del Barco (NPR), Ellin O'Leary and Denise Tejada (Youth Radio), Cristina Ballí (Texas Folklife), Russell Contreras (AP/Unity), and Mercedes de Uriarte (UT Austin).
