In her ”inspirational lecture” Nina Ernst hopes to give you some hints about the narrative strategies comics artists in Sweden use in their graphic memoirs. This is something she has examined in her dissertation. To begin with, Nina will give you an overview of the thematical patterns in the stories, show examples of the methods used by the comics creators to create authenticity and truthfulness. Moreover, she will together with you, take a closer look at one of her case studies, Malin Biller’s Om någon vrålar i skogen [If Someone Howls in the Woods] and in particular Biller’s rhetorical and narrative strategies when recreating her childhood trauma. The whole session will end up with reflections and an opportunity/ a challenge to put pen to paper and draw three panels about a day in your life.
