Preventative nursing practice is important in encouraging healthy nutritional choices to decrease contributing factors to mental illnesses. With adolescents and young adults often on their own for the first time when they begin college, dietary behaviors that may relate to mental health symptoms are more likely to change. Identifying major dietary flaws in adolescents and young adults, particularly college students, is the first step in developing these preventative measures. The purpose of this study is to identify dietary behaviors that may be associated with mental health symptoms in adolescents and young adults at The University of Texas at Austin.
