  public speaker. With over three decades reporting the world\, he brings a
  global and humanistic perspective to a range of projects\, from collabora
 ting on the Pulitzer Prize-winning “Out of Eden Walk” project\, to edi
 ting the first-ever National Geographic retrospective on Islam\, to explor
 ing the frontiers of journalism in the digital age. \n\nIn this talk\, Bel
 t will discuss the slow journalism approach to reporting he helped develop
  through his work with Paul Salopek and his “Out of Eden Walk.” Salope
 k’s 7-year\, 22\,000 mile trek from Ethiopia to Tierra del Fuego\, is a 
 uniquely powerful multimedia storytelling project that covers the major st
 ories of our time—from climate change to technological innovation\, from
  mass migration to cultural survival—by retracing the route of human mig
 ration and giving voice to the people who live with these issues every day
