About this Event
302 INNER CAMPUS DR , Austin, Texas 78705
https://www.lib.utexas.edu/events/112The Architecture & Planning Library and the Alexander Architectural Archives are pleased to celebrate the anniversary of the University of Texas Education Building, now known as Sutton Hall through the sixth installment of the To Better Know a Building exhibition series.
The Alexander Architectural Archives is fortunate to have documentation for the building including construction drawings, construction photographs and project files from the University of Texas Buildings collection.
The exhibition series seeks to explore buildings through drawings and other visual items found in the Alexander Architectural Archives and Architecture & Planning Library with a focus on working drawings. Plans, elevations, sections and details communicate the realization of design intent and can be used as a vehicle in teaching through example.
The exhibit is located in the reading room of the Architecture and Planning Library and will be on display from April 16, 2018 until October 1, 2018. Please check library hours before visiting.
The next installment in the series will be chosen by a vote by students and visitors from a list provided by the Alexander Architectural Archives.
Please join us for the exhibit opening Monday, April 16 at 6pm in the Architecture and Planning Library reading room. Opening remarks will be provided by The University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture Professor Richard Cleary. Cleary is co-author with Lawrence Speck of The University of Texas at Austin: The Campus Guide (Princeton Architectural Press, 2011), an architectural history of the main campus, and editor of Traces and Trajectories: The University of Texas School of Architecture at 100 (UT School of Architecture, 2010), a collection of essays and design work marking the School’s centennial.
