https://www.austinfilm.org/screening/harmonia/Sarah and Abraham are a Jewish couple devoted to the Jerusalem Philharmonic. Hagar, an Arab-Israeli, joins the orchestra and, as her friendship with childless Sarah grows, offers to conceive a child with Abraham. Twelve years later, Sarah unexpectedly conceives her own child. Eventually the two half-brothers begin their own musical journey through the ethno-religious complexities of Israel.
REVIEWS
“HARMONIA feels as grounded in the heat and dust of its backstage milieu as an Altman film, and is as infatuated with classical music as Ulmer’s Carnegie Hall.” – Jaime M. Christley, Slant
“Writer-director Ori Sivan has given us a retelling of Abraham and Sarah’s saga that is far from simplistic… I found myself holding my breath in anticipation of how a character would play a line of music.” – Jew School
Sponsored by: The Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Austin Film Society, and the Department of Radio, Television and Film
