Fall is well and truly here but we've got cooler things to do indoors at our FREE day-to-night out! 

Don't miss current exhibition "Making Africa: A Continent of Contemporary Design" that showcases the dynamic art and design of over 120 artists. And make time to refuel at our café with a slice of pizza & glass of wine for $5 (available after 5pm).

12:30pm-1:30pm ~ PUBLIC TOUR: Highlights of the Blanton's Collection

12:30pm-1:30pm ~ GALLERY TALK with Mukhtara Yusuf

Artist and designer Mukhtara Yusuf will discuss “Africa and Materiality” through works in Making Africa, highlighting issues of conspicuous consumption and alternative use, and contextualizing these works within the history of African functional objects.

5:30pm ~ BEAT THE RUSH: Bamako Airlines

Exploring genres with roots 5,000 miles away, Bamako Airlines are composed of nine musicians who aim to keep Austin dancing with their Afrocentric sounds! This performance will take place in our atrium. 

5:30pm ~ POP-UP EXHIBITION: Italy in Art

Come see Venice, Florence, and Rome through the eyes of artists from the seventeenth through the twentieth centuries in our Prints & Drawings Room.

6:30pm-8:30pm ~ MAKING AFRICA: Panel Discussion

Join us for this incredible panel which includes two artists featured in our current exhibition. Panelists include Walé Oyéjidé, Esq., Designer and Creative Director for Ikiré Jones (who worked on costumes for Black Panther), Nosarieme Garrick, documentary filmmaker and producer of the award-winning series MyAfricaIs, and local artist and designer Mukhtara Yusuf.

7:30-8:00pm ~ SLOW LOOKING

Enjoy a thoughtful and relaxed 30-minute conversation about a single work of art on view at the museum. 

Museum admission is always free on Thursdays. 

The Blanton is located at the intersection of Congress Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Paid parking is available in the Blanton/Brazos Garage on Brazos Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Parking is $4; bring your ticket with you to the front desk of the museum.
