The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship is a highly competitive U.S. Department of Education grant that provides graduate and undergraduate fellowships for students to pursue intensive training in modern languages and related area or international studies. FLAS fellowships provide tuition and a substantial stipend for living expenses.
LLILAS Benson will accept applications for both graduate and undergraduate fellowships for Spring 2019, Summer 2019, and Academic Year 2019–2020.
This information session is specific to Latin American languages.
Students may apply for multiple grants. A separate application must be completed for each. Requests will be considered for the study of Portuguese, K'iche', Nahuatl, Kaqchikel, Quechua, Haitian Creole, Chatino, and other indigenous or Latin American dialects as approved by the Department of Education. A limited number of awards may be provided to graduate students for the advanced study of Spanish in Spring 2019 only. The application will open on or near November 1, 2018, on the LLILAS FLAS page.
The Spring 2019 application is due on December 1, 2018. Notifications of awards will be given in January 2019. The Summer 2019 and academic year 2019–20 applications are due January 11, 2019. Notifications of those awards will be given in February 2019.
This info session is free and open to UT Austin students. Light snacks provided. RSVP and receive event updates on Facebook at FLAS info session.
