The Department of and Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin are happy to announce the 5th Annual Jil Jadid "New Generation" Conference in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish Literature and Linguistics, to be held February 27-28, 2015.

For the past four Februaries, graduate students from a wide range of universities, both domestic and international, have assembled in Austin to set the tone for Arabic studies in the twenty-first century. This year, we are pleased to bring together our colleagues not only in Arabic studies, but also in Hebrew, Persian, Turkish in order to facilitate a productive and interdisciplinary exchange of new ideas. In addition to seven panels of graduate student presentations, the conference will feature keynote speeches by Dr. Keith Walters (Portland State University) and Dr. miriam cooke (Duke University). The Jil Jadid conference is open to students, faculty, and staff in the University of Texas at Austin community. Thanks to our team of volunteers and the generous support of our sponsors, Jil Jadid requires no fees of presenters and/or attendees. Registration prior to the conference is not required.
