Molotov Seminar 85 · What's it like to be blind?

Jake Roussel, born blind, now visually impaired and a teacher of the blind, wants to clean up many perceptions about blindness, and create a bridge of understanding.

From Jake:

I was born completely blind, but got cornea transplants around one. My parents made sure that I develop as normally as possible. As a kid, I had to advocate for myself to remain in normal and not special classes.

I double-majored in English and journalism from Texas State, then taught vocations and independent living to blind adults. Next, I did a Masters in Adult Education, and taught ESL classes through its various programs. I now teach at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

I've always wanted to be an educator. I want to educate people to understand blindness better, and explain why we are not necessarily here to inspire just because of our disability.
