Physics PhD student Aaron Foote will discuss how the US 2-party politics originated out of the events and ideas of colliding factions in the newly created nation.

About the speaker:
American political polarization seems to be at an all time high, with constant partisan grappling between Democrats and Republicans. But the stakes of today's political battles pale in comparison to those of the early republic. Known as the 'Age of Passion', the 1790's bore witness to two competing factions, led by Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, that viciously fought for the soul of the United States.
In this talk, the speaker will discuss Hamilton's and Jefferson's origins, attempt to explain their political beliefs, and recount the events of their tumultuous clash. He will close by discussing who won, and whose vision of the United States is most closely realized today.

About the speaker:
Aaron Foote is a Physics Ph.D. student with a strong interest in politics and American history.
