Open to both UT affiliates and the community at large, this symposium precedes opening night of the new production of Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Play.

Using a zero-waste and equitable theatre production as a launchpad, the team creating the production invites all for critical conversations around sustainable theatrical design and construction, ethical rehearsal room practices, environmental justice and the history of sustainability efforts on UT’s campus. 

10:00-11:00am The History of UT Campus Sustainability | Winship 1.134

Student panelists from UT Austin’s Office of Sustainability highlight students’ role in driving environmental sustainability initiatives on campus and discuss current and past sustainability efforts.

11:15-12:30pm Sustainability Workshop

A food waste and/or sustainable visual art-making workshop. Stay tuned for more details!

1:30-2:30pm Environmental Justice | Winship 1.134

Community activists and UT professors discuss current movements and issues in environmental justice in the state of Texas.

3:00-4:00pm Sustainable Theatrical Design and Construction | Winship 1.134

Members of the set and costume design team of Mr. Burns: A post-electric play share their methods and approach to the zero-waste design and construction process.

4:00-5:00pm Ethical Rehearsal Practices | Winship 1.134

Mr. Burns directors and actors share their approach to an ethical and equitable rehearsal room and their moments of learning from the rehearsal process.

5:30-7:00pm Opening Night Toast | Winship Atrium

Audience members and Mr. Burns team toast to the show’s opening night and celebrate the unveiling of Calder Kamin’s visual art installation.
