"Where Are All the Black People?"

From Jim Crow to Gentrification in Austin

Join us for a screening of "The Stand In," a short documentary about civil rights protests of movie theater segregation led by UT Austin students and supporters in 1960-61.  The peaceful protest lasted for 10 months and resulted in Paramount Theaters agreeing to desegregate their theaters nationwide.  This small but important victory occurred three years before the passage of the Civil Rights Act.

Special guest Dr. Leon McNealy (an original stand in activist).

Hosted by AADS Community Internship Course
