Rennie Harris Funkedified

Considered to be the pioneer of “Street Dance” Theater, Rennie Harris presents his new evening-long multimedia work that celebrates funk music and street dance of the 1970’s.

Narrated by Rennie Harris and set against the landscape of a video montage of African American communities of that era, Rennie Harris Funkedfied navigates the audience through a snippet of the 70’s per Harris’ journey into Funk music and culture, which ultimately evolves into Hip-hop culture. The piece features dancers from Rennie Harris Puremovement American Street Dance Theater Company, internationally known lock-dance group The Hood Lockers, and New York funk band Invincible.

Rennie Harris is currently a teacher at the University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance.
