Fathers and Adolescents Needed for Research Study on Parent-Child Conversations

We are conducting research on fathers and their adolescents (12 to 16 years old). We are interested in how fathers communicate their ideas and values to their children, how adolescents perceive their father’s role in their lives, and in what fathers and their adolescents talk about. We are especially interested in conversations about difficult topics and in how those conversations influence adolescents’ lives.

To participate, fathers and their adolescents will come to our lab at the College of Education at UT and spend about 2 hours filling out surveys, participating in interviews, and talking to each other about various topics. Afterwards and over the following 4 weeks, they will record conversations between the two of them for about 20 minutes per week.

Each father-adolescent pair that participates will receive $50 worth of VISA gift cards for the lab visit and $60 more for the recorded conversations.
