About the speaker: 

Yusra Mardini is an Olympic swimmer and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. After fleeing the Syrian civil war in 2015, Yusra competed as a swimmer on the Refugee Olympic Team in both the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games. Since then, she's become a prominent voice for refugees worldwide and carries a message of global peace and resilience. 

The film The Swimmers ( 2022, dir. Sally El Hosaini) is based on the true story of Yusra and her sister, who relied on their swimming skills to help propel a boat carrying other refugees escaping Syria across the Mediterranean Sea. The film is subtitled in English & Arabic and runs 135 minutes.
