DESCRIPTION:Since its launch in 2018\, Planet Texas 2050 has funded almost
30 research projects with the broader goal of helping make Texas more resi
lient. To build on our successes over the past three years\, we are now pi
voting to six Flagship projects that will be in place through 2025. Flagsh
ip projects are four-year research projects designed to foster long-term i
nterdisciplinary research collaboration and stakeholder engagement in key
areas of resilience-related research. These include biodiversity\, disaste
 r planning\, circular economies\, and environmental justice\, while also u
sing the tools of archaeology and integrated modelling to understand our p
ast and inform our possible futures. \n We see several advantages to havi
ng six multi-year projects in our portfolio instead of a dozen (or more) o
ne-year projects. Having multiple years will mean more time to build trust
with our community partners and to grow our projects in new and surprisin
g directions\, while also providing some baseline stability for our resear
ch teams and clarity for our external audiences. These six projects tackle
the biggest issues we have uncovered so far as part of our grand challeng
e initiative. \n Join us from May 10th through 12th as the-leaders of the
flagships introduce their visions for the next four years. Come and ask qu
estions\, get involved\, and provide feedback on our future endeavors. Mo
 nday\, May 10\, 2021\n2-3:00 p.m.\nIntegrated Models for Complex Decision
Making: Developing new models that enable scientists\, policy makers\, cit
y managers\, and communities to harness vast amounts of data from a variet
y of sources to make effective and timely climate-related decisions.\n\nSt
ories of Ancient Resilience: Reexamining the past to inspire a new vision
of human resilience and effective response to the climate crisis.\n\n \n\n
 Tuesday\, May 11\, 2021\n11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.\n\n\nEquitable and Regenerativ
e Cities in a Post-Carbon Future: Reimagining more equitable and resource-
efficient metropolitan areas while safeguarding the food\, fiber\, fuel\,
and water that people and the planet depend on.\n\nNetworks for Hazard Pre
paredness and Response: Preparing for floods and heat waves by designing n
ew maps and tools that can be used by first responders\, neighborhood asso
 ciations\, city governments\, and planners.\n\n \n\nWednesday\, May 12\, 2
021\n1-2:00 p.m.\n\n\nFrontline Community Partnerships for Climate Justice
: Partnering with diverse populations to research and discover locally led
solutions to the climate crisis while identifying new green career pathwa
ys out of poverty.\n\nBiodiversity and Changing Landscapes: Pioneering new
methods to explain and predict changes in ecosystems by monitoring wildli
 fe\, weather\, soil\, disease-carrying pathogens\, and more to better unde
