Heavy rains in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, India have flooded the districts of Thiruvanamalai, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore and Chennai, affecting 1.8 million with an official death toll of 188. Essential services including power, public transport, and food to the city have been cut off and schools have been closed for several days.  

AID Austin is working to support volunteers and non-governmental organizations that have quicly organized themselves and are working in cooperation with each other and the government on immediate relief. In the mid- to long-term, AID and its partners will take up reconstruction of homes in the rural areas that have been severly damaged by the floods.
