Claire Agre is Consulting Principal at West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture, the renowned Dutch firm with offices in Belgium, Rotterdam and New York. As of 2018, Agre is also Principal and Cofounder of Unknown Studio Landscape Architecture, a new practice based in Baltimore, MD.
Agre brings humor, passion and conceptual clarity to projects of all scales and typologies. With a background in painting and field ecology, she led design and implementation for a diverse portfolio of projects, including the Master Plan and Hills Phase of Governors Island Park and Public Spaces, Miami Beach Soundscape Park, the 1000-acre, 40-year Master Plan for Longwood Gardens and its award-winning Main Fountain Garden Revitalization, Duke University Sculpture Park, and the winning entry for Changing Course—an interdisciplinary, international design competition seeking solutions for the disappearing Lower Mississippi Delta. Most recently, Agre led the multidisciplinary design and engineering team responsible for Phase 1 of the Houston Botanic Garden (pictured), a collection garden founded on ideals of diversity and resilience, slated to open on Sims Bayou, Southeast Houston, in 2020.
