The Turn of the Screw

A rebroadcast of the Butler Opera Center's thrilling 2020 performance of Benjamin Britten's famous opera.

Kihwa Nam, director
Douglas Kinney Frost, conductor
Featuring the UT New Music Ensemble
In English, adapted from Henry James

A governess is hired to care for two young children; their guardian, the children's uncle, is living in London with no interest in caring for them himself. There are only three rules he asks the governess to follow: never write to him about the children, never ask about the history of the house and never abandon the children.

Employing Britten's signature mixture of tonality and dissonance to haunting effect, The Turn of the Screw is an old-fashioned ghost story that also touches on very contemporary themes.
