Nina Ernst will begin by giving a brief historical overview of the origin of the graphic memoir and show recurring thematical patterns in the Swedish autobiographical works she has examined. Also, she will show some methods and devices used in the genre to create a feeling of truthfulness and authenticity. A wide range of visual examples from some of the works examined and analysed by Ernst will be shown and discussed.
