What are the contemporary limitations and possibilities of artificial intelligence for Urdu Studies—the teaching, learning, and research of Urdu language and culture? Through comparisons with better and lesser resourced languages, this presentation will consider:  the affordances that artificial intelligence, especially large language models, currently provide Urdu Studies, the data necessary for further developments, and how citizen scholars can contribute to the resources and development of Urdu Studies and AI.

 

About Speaker

A. Sean Pue is professor of Hindi and South Asian Languages and Culture at Michigan State University. His research interests include South Asian literary history, especially of modernism, and digital humanities. He is a core faculty member of Global Studies in Arts and Humanities.
