The voluntary carbon market represents a unique opportunity for collaboration between energy companies and environmentalists, two groups traditionally seen as adversaries. By providing financial incentives to decommission old oilfields and mitigate methane emissions, carbon credits serve as a powerful tool for addressing climate change while aligning economic and environmental goals. For oil and gas operators, this pathway not only reduces long-term liabilities but also opens the door to partnerships that enhance their social license to operate.
In this talk, ClimateWells CEO Reid Calhoon will explore how voluntary carbon markets create a shared framework where energy companies can generate new revenue streams by accelerating their environmental stewardship, while environmentalists gain progress in emissions reductions and land restoration. Through real-world examples of high-integrity carbon credit projects, Reid will demonstrate how these markets foster collaboration and mutual benefits, offering a bridge to a more sustainable energy future.
