Are you interested in developing your public speaking, communication, and leadership skills? If so, please save the date and plan to attend The UT Staff Toastmasters Club "Open House!"

At the Open House, visitors will have the opportunity to meet club members, ask questions, learn about the Toastmasters curriculum, and see how it works first hand by experiencing a typical Toastmasters meeting. All visitors will be entered to win one of several door prizes (one entry per person). Feel free to bring your lunch, we’ll provide the cookies!

Each Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills by giving a prepared or impromptu speech or taking on a role such a evaluator, grammarian or timekeeper. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting and the curriculum is self-paced creating a continuous learning environment for all participants.  Members evaluate each other’s presentations in a constructive yet positive and mutually supportive format; this friendly feedback process is a key part of the program’s success.

Toastmasters International began in 1924 and has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The non-profit organization now has nearly 357,000 members in more than 16,600 clubs in 143 countries, offering a proven and enjoyable way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.  Survey after survey shows that presentation skills are crucial to success in the workplace.  Many people pay high fees for seminars to gain the skills and confidence necessary to face an audience. Toastmasters provides an on-going affordable option that is held in high regard in professional/business circles.

Membership in the UT Staff Toastmasters Club is open to all current and former UT Austin staff (including post-docs).
