The Warfield Center is excited to present its first Documentary Film Showcase, which will take place January 29th- 30th at the Glickman Conference Center. This showcase will explore the relationship between film and activism in the diaspora. We have invited the following directors to present their films:
Shola Lynch, UT alum and Curator of the Moving Image & Recorded Sound division of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. She will present her film, Free Angela and All Political Prisoners, which focuses on Angela Davis’s 1970 trial for murder.
Matthew J. Smith, professor of Caribbean history and Director of the University College London’s Center for the Study of the Legacies of British Slave-Ownership. He will present his film, The Past is Not Our Future: Walter Rodney’s Student Years, which documents the early period of Walter Rodney’s life of activism.
Wendi Moore-O’Neal and Ada McMahon will showcase their film, This Little Light: A Black Feminist Worker’s Story, which tells the story of Wendi Moore-O’Neal, a Black Feminist freedom singer who was fired from her community organizing job after marrying her wife.
