DESCRIPTION:Washers brings together the performances of Visual Art Studies 
 seniors Julia Caswell and Madison Weakley for a dynamic intervention at th
 e Visual Arts Center. Through concurrent activation of their individual wo
 rks—Weakley's Wash and Caswell's Semi-Automatic Washing Machine—the ar
 tists invite the viewer to engage with the notions of rhythm\, object rela
 tion\, and the quotidian that powers each performance.\n\nWeakley and Casw
 ell share an excitement for the everyday\, seeing in it the potential to a
 nimate their work. Their performances go beyond the simple act of washing 
 clothing\, instead emphasizing the cataloguing of memories through associa
 tive materials and the resumed relation of movements. Through their action
 s\, Weakley and Caswell offer the viewer a proposal to experience the rhyt
 hmic tempo of everyday cycles.\n\nPresented in conjunction with the exhibi
 tion Teeter\, on view March 10 - April 7.
